Sushma Lohitsa Receives $3750 Grant!

sushmaWe absolutely love grants!  Congratulations to Sushma Lohitsa!  She was just awarded a $3,750.00 grant for her school.  The grant is funded by The Exelon Foundation, ComED, BP, Nicor Gas, People’s Gas, and North Shore Gas.  Energizing Student Potential, is a STEM-focused energy program for grades 5–8. The program aims to merge both classroom and community in efforts of providing an engaging educational experience. Curriculum, field trips, support, lesson ideas and much more are provided to teachers who are dedicated to educating others about clean energy sources through a STEM-based instructional approach. Students will study the nation’s energy resources and how they are formed, produced, and used. They will investigate wind energy, solar energy, and even engineer their own generators using the design process! Read more at NEED.org.

 

The grant includes:

  • A $750 grant to support your STEM Challenge project
  • $3,000 of hands-on kits and curriculum
  • An Energizing Student Potential Energy Fair Kit to host an Energy Fair and Carnival at your school
  • Access to Educational Energy Audits, Field Trips and Classroom Visits
  • Two-Day Professional Development for a team of 2 teachers per school
  • Celebration of Energy hosted as a culminating event at the end of the school year
  • Connections to STEM professionals to help students see all the possibilities of STEM and Energy Careers

More information will be offered at an upcoming workshop on October 28th and 29th.  Lohitsa and a few colleagues will attend the conference. Lohitsa expresses, “I am really excited, as are the kids!”
