Zooming in on Pi in the Sky!

We’ve heard students ask “When will I ever use this again?”  Well, the high school students in Marianna Jenning’s classroom may now have a better answer, for Pi that is!  She and her students participated in NASA’s Pi in the Sky Challenge on March 14, 2018.  They were shocked to learn that NASA uses Pi every single day!  As a matter of fact,  NASA uses Pi in at least eighteen different ways.  See below.

“It was a great activity to dive in deep with some very large numbers, with very real applications. The use of scientific notation was helpful.  We discussed significant figures as well as the formulas,”  Jennings shared.
